About the Project

Partner professionals participated in a design team that has delivered a 380,000 sf four-story high school for Union City and the NJ School Construction Corporation (NJSCC). This project is one of several projects selected by NJSCC as a premiere example of educational design: expediting the delivery process and incorporating community access were paramount project goals. NJSCC standards required that the new high school design be structured to meet the requirements equivalent to satisfying LEED certification.

The HVAC system includes two 700-ton chillers, central boiler plant, cooling tower, ducted fan coil unit, and built-up indoor modular air handling units. The electrical design includes three emergency generators; one 13,200-volt, threephase medium voltage electric service with distribution and two 13.2-KV medium voltage unit substations throughout the building; lighting consisting of indirect T5 HO lighting; power; and emergency systems. Partner professionals also designed complete plumbing, fire sprinkler, and fire alarm systems for the building.

A unique design element of this project is that the football stadium, including fields, bleachers, locker rooms, concession stand, etc., is located on the roof above the auditorium, gymnasium, and media center.
